Citing a crowded film schedule between now and 2018, Disney has stopped pre-production of “Tron 3.”
The film we never actually greenlit, though the film was in development for quite some time. Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund and Bruce Boxleitner were all expected to reprise their roles, but it was unknown whether or not Jeff Bridges would reprise his role.
“Tron: Legacy” was released in 2010, 28 years after the original “Tron” hit theaters and generated over $400 million in the box office. Joseph Kosinski was slated to direct again.
The third installment was slated for a 2017 release. Disney currently has nine other films currently in production, including “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Incredibles 2” and “Cars 3.”
