Marvel’s X-Men spinoff film, “Gambit,” which will star Channing Tatum (“Foxcatcher”) as the titular character, has named their director.
Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) will direct the film, which is currently slated for an Oct. 7, 2016 release date.
With Gambit being a fan favorite among the X-Men audience, he will be the first character of the comic series besides Wolverine to receive his own film.
Despite Gambit’s appeal, he has only been featured in one previous X-Men film, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” where he was portrayed by Taylor Kitsch.
His role with the franchise, however, will grow over the next few years. Tatum is slated to star in this film as well as the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
With the director now landed, the film will now focus on casting. At the moment, only Tatum has signed on.
