Michael Green has been hired by 20th Century Fox to write the screenplay for the third Wolverine film, which is slated to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as the titular character in what will be his last appearance in the X-Men film series. Since “X-Men” hit theaters in 2000, Jackman has appeared in all nine films in the series, including the upcoming Wolverine film as well as “X-Men: Apocalypse,” which will be released next year.
Green, who is currently writing the sequel to “Blade Runner,” is no secret to superhero films. He wrote the screenplay to “Green Lantern,” which was released in 2011 and a pair of “Heroes” episodes.
Last month, Jackman announced on Instagram that he will portray Wolverine “one last time.”
The film will be directed by James Mangold, who also directed “The Wolverine.” Patrick Stewart is also rumored to be in the film as Professor Charles Xavier.
