Eddie Murphy is in talks to join the cast for Lee Daniels’ upcoming Richard Pryor biopic.

With Mike Epps already cast as Pryor, Murphy, who worked alongside Pryor in the 1989 film “Harlem Nights,” is being seen as a possibility to play Pryor’s father, LeRoy.

Pryor was a comedian who pushed racial boundaries often on the way to becoming one of the most influential stand-up comics of all time.

Not much, however, was a laughing matter in his early life. Pryor grew up in a brothel run by his abusive grandmother in which his mother worked before abandoning him at age 10. When Pryor was not being beaten by his grandmother, his father, an alcoholic ex-boxer, would step in. Both were subjects in many of his routines.

Though he typically takes on comedic roles, Murphy has performed well when he steps away from the norm. In 2007, Murphy received an Oscar nomination for “Dreamgirls.”

Kate Hudson has also been sought after for the film for the role of Jennifer Lee Pryor, who was Pryor’s fourth with in 1981-82. The couple remarried in 2001 and remained together until Pryor’s death in 2005.
