Zac Efron has officially signed on to star in the upcoming Fox and Cherin Entertainment film Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.
The signing comes after the success of 2014 summer comedy Neighbors, which grossed $150 million domestically. Film studios now see Efron’s potential in adult comedies aimed at males after spending his early years working in family comedies or films made for teenage audiences.
Jake Szymanski is set to direct the comedy about two brothers who post an online ad for dates to an upcoming wedding that quickly goes viral. The studio is currently seeking another actor to portray Efron’s brother. At the moment, it is unclear as to which titular character Efron will portray.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates has a slotted release date of July 29,2016.
